The Eye for Design game published by Sandlot Games and developed by TechFront Studios is a one of a kind Puzzle game that involves interior designing game play just like Home Sweet Home. In this game, however, you play as a newly graduated interior decorator by the name of Halle as she tries to earn her way to the top of the industry and reach her goal of decorating the world-famous lord Schmedly’s Manor. She won’t do it all on her own at first, of course, because her trusty but arrogant mentor, Armand, will be there to give her advice. But still, Halle will have to rely on your “Eye for Design” most of the time before she can achieve any of her goals.
At first glance, Eye for Design really have great similarities with Home Sweet Home, but instead of being a Time Management game, there is actually no time involved in this game, but rather puzzling challenges awaiting you on every room. Your main objective is to listen to client requests on how they want their homes to be redecorated and try to earn reputation points in the process after satisfying each customer. More reputation points will be awarded if you follow instructions accurately, having a keen eye in furniture colors, and sometimes, finishing a room within a limited number of moves.
The best feature I found about the Eye for Design game though is the overall challenge presented in its game play. You can definitely feel the difficulty increase after every level as more and more items are asked by your clients to fit in such small spaces. In fact, it can get really annoying too on most of the later levels since certain furniture can only be put in designated place points. Basically, that’s the puzzle presented by this game: figuring out a single set placement for all the required furniture. And frankly, it’s quite fun in a challenging trial and error sort of way.
In terms of presentation, the cartoony graphics of Eye for Design as well as the comic cut scenes are very entertaining. In fact, I bet you’ll also like how Halle dances around the title screen doing some Pulp Fiction-like dance moves. The music is great too, but can get monotonous after some time. All in all, I liked the Eye for Design game but for those people that find trial and error games annoying, it would be wiser to just stay out of this game because, well, that’s all you’re going to do in here.
