The Sherlock Holmes: The Mystery of the Persian Carpet game coming from Frogwares Game Development Studio effectively blends traditional Hidden Object game play with mind-numbing puzzle-solving prevalent with adventure games of this type. In this game, you play as the famous detective, Sherlock Holmes from Arthur Conan Doyle’s books as you try to crack the murder case of a young painter by the name of Vincent. What’s intriguing about this mystery, of course, is how the dead body of Vincent ended up being rolled in a remarkable Persian carpet. And since our pipe-smoking detective is so intrigued as well, then we’re all off to solve the adventure with trusty ol’ Dr. Watson hanging around by our side.
The Hidden Object game play in Sherlock Holmes: The Mystery of the Persian Carpet works by presenting you with silhouettes of needed clues in order for you to wrap up a particular scene. Many times, the objects are hidden, stacked away, or needs access keys for you to unravel, and that’s where the magnifying glass and gear cursors play their part in the game. Other found objects will be needed to find the rest of the list too by interacting them with some other objects in the background, thus, making use of your common sense in many of the puzzles. Basically, this means that you only not need a sharp eye, but a great wit too to solve each of the levels, and we always welcome that, don’t we?
One remarkable thing about the Sherlock Holmes: The Mystery of the Persian Carpet game is how much detailed and beautiful the scenes are all presented in a 3D perspective. You can definitely feel the mystery surrounding the whole adventure while you play. And I’m really quite amazed at how much interactive the levels are in comparison to cliché games on the same Hidden Object genre. In fact, this game also involves you investigating further all the clues you gathered during your snooping around, interact with suspects and other people testifying to the crime, and even review your progress by studying Holmes’ Deduction Board every time you progress. Now, that’s one dynamic game in my point of view.
After playing through the game, all I can say is that I definitely had a blast playing Sherlock Holmes: The Mystery of the Persian Carpet. Some of the puzzles will really spend you so much time trying to crack them up, but that’s what we’re looking for in games of this type anyways, right? One complaint though is how hard it is to find some of the items like smeared blood and footprints blending perfectly to the background. But since there’re no penalty for over-clicking anyway, I guess it’s all fine. And in case you’re stuck, Big Fish Games also offers a strategy guide to help you out. I really don’t have first hand experience about this guide, but when you’re already desperate, maybe it can also help you out a bit.
